West Contra Costa School Trustee in Fight for Job / Critics say incumbent is abusive

EXCERPT: -- Adrienne Harris-Pitts should be a shoo-in in next month's West Contra Costa school board elections.
    She has the biggest campaign war chest in the race and is the only incumbent on a school board fresh from a series of victories in the district's battle to pull itself out of a financial crisis. ... 
    The group is also questioning Harris-Pitts' fund-raising ethics. She has raised more than $24,000 in campaign contributions, more than what her opponents have raised combined. Many of her contributors, the group points out in one flyer, are contractors that do business with the district.  ...
   
"It's just political muckraking at its worst where there's no muck to rake," said businessman Tom Butt, one of her endorsers and an incumbent candidate for Richmond City Council. "I appreciate Adrienne. She's passionate, and she's not afraid to challenge people."
    School board member Charles Ramsey, Harris-Pitts' sole ally on the board, dismissed suggestions that her vote can be bought. He noted that Harris-Pitts had even voted to penalize one of the companies that has contributed to her campaign for violating its contract with the district.
    Don Gosney, vice president of the Steamfitters Union Local 342, which has endorsed Harris-Pitts, said that she had made mistakes in the past but that she has changed. ...
